More than a week after the death of Apple Inc. co-found Steve Jobs, Apple says a memorial service will be held for the former CEO at Stanford University, the Associated Press reports.

The memorial will be a private service Sunday evening, Oct. 16 and will be open to Silicon Valley luminaries and close friends of the Jobs family.

No public services are planned according to Apple.

The private ceremony follows California Gov. Jerry Brown's declaration of Sunday as Steve Jobs Day in the state.

Jobs died Oct. 5, due to respirtory arrest caused by complications from pancreatic cancer.
