The Duchess of Cambridge carried out her first solo royal engagement in London in place of the her father-in-law, the Prince of Wales on Wednesday night, according to the CBS.

According to the palace, Kate Middleton, 29, was asked to represent Prince Charles, 62 at a dinner at Clarence House after he was called away to Riyadh to offer condolences to the Saudi Arabian royal family following the death of the crown prince.

The benefit marks her first solo engagement since marrying Prince William in April.

“The Duchess of Cambridge was delighted to be able to step in for her father-in-law, the Prince of Wales, to celebrate the work of In Kind Direct at the dinner,” a St. James’s Palace Spokesman told The Telegraph.

The In Kind Direct charity dinner was held to thank supporters of the charity founded by Charles in 1996.  The organization redistributes surplus goods from manufacturers to various U.K. charities.

Although the Duchess only had 24 hours notice to prepare for a dinner party for 30 guests according to reports, she managed to pull if off.

“You would never know it was her first solo engagement. It was as if she had been trained by the Prince of Wales,” Robin Boles, the charity’s chief executive told People.  “She was completely natural, professional and charmed everyone. She spoke to every single guest and was genuinely interested in continuing to help.”

According to a palace aide, Middleton was pleased that her first solo engagement was for her father-in-law who has supported her greatly over the years.
