Karl Lagerfeld has announced that he will be launching a new ready-to-wear collection called “Karl” in January. Known best as the creative director of Chanel and Fendi, Lagerfeld has also designed collections for H&M and Macy’s, as well as contributed to campaigns for such brands as Volvo, Magnum Ice Cream, and Diet Coke. Reflecting Lagerfeld’s unique aesthetic, the collection, aimed at the “everyday yet still fashion conscious audience”, is said to contain plunging cocktail dresses, biker jackets, and metallic jeans, as well as Lagerfeld’s signature fingerless gloves.

The collection, sold almost exclusively online, will be launched on luxury online retailer Net-A-Porter and will be the sole distributor for four weeks, when the collection will become available on karllagerfeld.com. “It’s a very strong, well-edited collection with a great mix of street attitude and timeless chic,” said Net-A-Porter founder Natalie Massenet about the collection. “It also is an entire wardrobe that mixes and matches well with itself. While it has great contemporary price points, it has enough edge to resonate with a sophisticated fashion consumer who is looking for great new items at any budget.”

Lagerfeld also commented on his numerous collaborations, something which has earned him the nickname “Labelfeld”, saying that he will be scaling back the number of collaborative projects he is involved in.

The 100-piece Karl womenswear line, which will retail from $95 to $450, will be available on net-a-porter.com on January 25, 2012 and on karllagerfeld.com on February 28, 2012. A Karl menswear line is also said to be in progress, as well as the Karl Lagerfeld Paris line, a premium collection that will debut at Paris Couture Week and is slated to launch in Fall 2012. Updates on the collection are available at net-a-porter.com/karl.
