Exciting news for fans of the James Bond franchise: The Los Angeles Times reports that Javier Bardem is signed on to be the next Bond film’s villain.

The Sam Mendes flick, currently under the working title “Bond 23” (and rumored to be named “Skyfall”), is slated for a November 2012 release. Also on board are Judi Dench, who returns as M, and Naomie Harris who plays Moneypenny, M’s secretary who has a thing for James.

The actor could not reveal much about the role or about the newest Bond flick, but he’s had the role in mind for months.

"They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic," Bardem said. "I'd be playing Bond's nemesis, yes, but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It's very intriguing."

Bardem is no stranger to darker roles. The talented performer won an Oscar for best supporting actor after portraying Anton Chigurh in 2007’s “No Country For Old Men.”  He was last seen in “Eat, Pray, Love” where he co-starred with Julia Roberts.

Do you think Bardem is fit for the part?
