She underwent a double lumpectomy on Tuesday as part of her breast cancer treatment, her husband Bill Rancic told the Today show Thursday.

The E! News host had cancerous growths in both breasts removed and doctors also removed lymph nodes that may have been affected, CNN reported.

 “Giuliana is a trooper.  She pulled through it,” Bill Rancic said.  “She’s relieved to have it over with and get the cancer out.  She’s doing well at home and recovering – and I’m adding nurse to my resume.  She’s having fun with that.”

The cancer was caught in the early stages and according to Bill Rancic, the surgery lasted two hours and appeared to be successful. 

The couple is taking a positive approach to her condition and treatment.  

“We’re viewing this as a gift, that it was caught very early,” Bill Rancic said.  “We will kick off 2012 with a new outlook on life.”
