"Hurry Up We're Dreaming" is finally out. Released last Tuesday, M83's new album plays 22 tracks building up harmonically from "Intro" to "Outro".

M83, the French electronic pop band that consists of Anthony Gonzalez, his brother Yann, and other three musicians recorded this sixth album in Los Angeles. Anthony Gonzalez moved to the city of angels and therefore, the band taped "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" at the Sound Factory, a studio based in L.A.

They made this new piece of work a two-CD album. Using the song "Mirror" as an interlude, Gonzalez describes the two discs of "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" as a brother and sister duo matching one song to another as siblings.  Each one of the songs is present on both discs.

The intro of the album slowly invites you to step into the band's rebirth. "Intro" and "Midnight City" both give an enthusiastic and welcoming beginning. With a distinct influence from '80s beats, the two songs take you on a journey to the groovy dance floors of films like Footloose or Flashdance. However, the following tracks sound more airy and drive the listener to the "dreamy" aspects of the album universe.

Besides the intriguing "Raconte-moi Une Histoire" told by the voice of a cute little kid's voice, the build up of the first disc sounds somehow underwhelming. As soon as we enter a much more mellow phase of the album, the tracks lack the catchy keyboard add-on from the beginning of the song which made it sound so original.

Once disc two is on, some of the songs retrieve this earlier introduced '80s sound but mildly added to the overall second part. "Klaus I Love You" recalls that type of oldie blend but in a slower tempo. While "Intro" excitingly pushes the receiver to listen forward, "Outro" exits the audience through a quieter wall of sound.

M83's fan base was expecting an interesting return three years after the "Saturday = Youth" release. Although the lively beginning puts a smile on one's face, "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" does not suffice. However, the overall compilation might be more appreciated at a live performance since listening to it in a closed setting does not do the instrumentals justice.
