Fears over another possible government shutdown appeared to subside Monday, as Congress disclosed that federal money would continue to reach victims of natural disasters through at least the end of the budget year.

The temporary funding measure passed the Senate with a 79 to 12 vote Monday evening.  The bill would fund the government for the next seven weeks.

The new law drops a provision for $1 billion worth of federal disaster aid that prompted republicans to filibuster the legislation.

The Senate also passed, via voice vote, a provision to fund government agencies for the next four days in an effort to give the House, whose members are currently on recess, time to consider the Senate bill.
