Only 34, DJ Mehdi, electronic music and hip-hop producer, died in an unfortunate accident at his house last night. According to the French media, he was standing on the mezzanine of his Parisian home when it suddenly collapsed. Mehdi was accompanied by three other people, who are still hospitalized at the moment.

Of Tunisian decent, Mehdi Faveris-Essadi has always been a talented musician. He started to spin on his father's turntables at the age of 12  and never stopped since.

Mehdi started out as a producer for hip-hop artists in the 90s, notably for the famous group 113, and was known as the DJ for Different Teep and Ideal J.

Later on, he became more and more interested in electronic music. After Pedro Winters signed him with Ed Banger Records, he released the "Lucky Boy" album in 2006 and joined the French electro elite working with Justice, Daft Punk, Uffie, and SebastiAn.

DJ Mehdi grew in this family and showcased his talent through many artistic collaborations, such as the famous duet "Carte blanche" with Henry Riton. He also co-founded Club 75, grouping Justice, Cassius, and Daft Punk on international tours.

At 4 a.m. last night, DJ CutKiller posted the first tweet announcing Mehdi's tragic death, "Dj Mehdi !!! there are no words for expressing the sadness I feel… a friend is gone…rest in peace bro". The electronic scene is in shock. All of his collaborators and friends have been continuously posting messages on Twitter and Facebook honoring his memory. Chromeo, who grew close to Mehdi after working together on the track "I am Somebody", wrote "We lost our brother. No words". Him and his brother A-track are now flying to Paris.

Uffie also tweeted "I'm so sad I couldn't be at the hospital with the rest of the crew to see your face one last time. You knew how to light up our heart as did a dancefloor. Life won't be the same without you in it…we will miss you more than words can say.. I just cant believe this…love you".

A very popular Parisian night club known for hosting great electronic artists, the Social Club, announced that they will keep the place closed for the night as "an evening of silence in honor of the artist".

We are excepting an announcement from Ed Banger Records. However, his partner Henry Riton posted "just want everyone to know that we were all laughing our asses off 1/2 second before the accident and simon alegia and louise are all well" two hours ago.

Mehdi was an important figure who contributed to the rise of the urban scene. He was one of the only producers who knew how to perfectly mix hip-hop beats and electronic music soundbites to make the funkiest, most dancable tunes.

DJ Mehdi, you will be missed.
