After hours of public debate, and continued deadlock over three contentious redistricting plans, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an amended version of the redistricting plan on Tuesday night, according to City News Service.

The approved plan does not create a second Latino-majority district, and Supervisor Gloria Molina was the sole dissenting vote. 

The battle over county redistricting lines included an outpouring of testimony from the public throughout Tuesday afternoon at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting. 

Two plans, one put forth by Gloria Molina and the other by Mark Ridley-Thomas, would have drastically altered district lines, paving the way for a second majority-Latino district. But while each of them supported the other's plan, none of the other three supervisors joined.

Zev Yaroslavsky vehemently opposed Molina's plan, which would have substantially carved up his district. 

The other plan, put forth by Supervisor Don Knabe, would have essentially kept the status quo. His plan was supported by all but Molina and Ridley-Thomas.
