The fifth season of “Private Practice” began its premiere picking up exactly where the season finale ended, grabbing viewers right away with Pete’s sudden and powerful heart attack at home.

In last season’s finale, Violet decided to leave home and tour her new book, causing a major tear in her marriage.

Addison and Sam’s relationship ended last season with an unexpected but favored hook-up, and now they are definitely back on- at least for now- as Addison consistently presses her desire to have a baby.

Amelia’s struggle with substance abuse arises as she starts drinking again and falls at a bar, cutting her hand which showed evidence to Sheldon and Charlotte that her problems are far from over. Amelia is worried about Charlotte finding out, since her privileges of operating have already been provoked.

Meanwhile, everyone at the hospital is confused by Pete’s absence, and Cooper visits the house to check on him where he breaks in and finds Pete unconscious. After being rushed to the hospital, the doctors at Oceanside, also Pete’s best friends, work to save his life. Violet’s phone is dead in the airport and is completely unaware of her husband’s condition. It isn’t until Cooper gets through to the airport phone lines that Violet finds out about Pete.

The one hour season premiere was drama filled and intense the whole way through, and while Pete is in stable condition by the end of the episode, the drama is far from over as Charlotte further suspends Amelia from the practice, and Addison visits the fertility doctor, who turns out to be the sexy guy she met in the grocery store. With new additions to the Oceanside family, season five promises more drama and romance for its devoted followers.
