During the offseason Selanne took the time to get a much-needed surgery on his left knee. The surgery took place in June, and Selanne has yet to make an announcement officially stating if he will continue to play another season or not. The 41-year-old has had an amazing 18-year career. Should he decide to play another season, he has made it clear that it will only be for the Ducks.

According to ESPN.com Murray said in an email to the Los Angeles Times, "He is working out on and off the ice and trying to strengthen his knee. It's not quite where he wants it yet.”

He has played in 1,259 NHL games, scored 637 goals, made 703 assists, acquired 1340 points, and has served a total of 570 PIM. He is expected to announce his decision before training camp commences.

In Chicago, 22-year-old Patrick Kane announced that he is healing ahead of schedule. This is welcomed news considering that just last month he was expressing doubt that he would be ready for training camp.  

It was discovered that Kane had a fractured wrist during the offseason after he complained of experiencing discomfort. He had surgery in July and was expected to be out of commission for six to eight weeks. 

"I get the splint off the 15th so after that I should be able to do pretty much everything. I've been skating and working out,” Kane said Tuesday. “For a while there, I couldn't go full equipment with the cast. Once I got the cast off that's when I started trying to get back into the flow quickly."

Kane posted 27 goals and 46 assists in 73 games this past season. There were slightly higher expectations for the budding star after his amazing 2009-2010 season—a season which ended with him scoring the winning goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs that brought Lord Stanley back to the Windy City for the first time since 1961.

Sidney Crosby held a press conference Wednesday with some of his doctors to update the media on the status of his concussion.

Crosby wanted to ensure that everyone understood that he has no intent of rushing back into playing the game. He truly wants to take his time in order to make sure that there will be no future problems from returning too soon. There is still no time-table for his return, and he will only return once he has returned to his 100%. 

His doctor’s made it extremely clear that he has been doing everything in his power to ensure as quick a recovery as possible.  Crosby discussed that at one point he was not able to watch television or drive his car. The mild symptoms that he has begun to experience again lately show that he has made a lot of progress, but still has a bit more healing to do.

Regarding speculation of his early retirement, Crosby said, “Retirement? No […] I didn’t really give a whole lot of thought to that.”  

When asked the chances of him never playing in the NHL again, Crosby was quick to answer and confidently replied, “A pretty slight one. I wouldn’t bet on that.”

As always, there are still many unanswered questions with just a couple weeks till training camps are set to begin. It is then when we shall find out if the summer’s rest was sufficient to get these injured players back in fighting condition.
