A new book on Sarah Palin written by the man who famously moved in next door to the former Alaska Governor is raising eyebrows for its controversial claims. From sleeping with former NBA star Glen Rice, to having an affair with husband Todd Palin's business partner and doing cocaine, author Joe McGinniss's "the Rogue" makes a number of shocking allegations against the 2008 Vice Presidential candidate--allegations, it should be noted, that Palin's camp is refuting.

The Daily Beast listed six of the juicier claims in the book, including the following bits: that she had an affair with Brad Hanson, a business partner of her husband's, in the mid 1990s; that she and Todd used cocaine and smoked pot; that she fed her kids burnt macaroni and cheese; and that she had a one-night stand with Rice.

The Huffington Post writes on the alleged one-night stand: "In the book, McGinniss writes that Palin had a one-night stand in 1987 with future NBA basketball player Glen Rice nine months before she married her husband Todd. He quotes a friend who said Palin 'had a fetish for black guys for a while.'"

Todd Palin, for the record, has come out denouncing the book, which is overall highly critical of the entire Palin family. "This is a man who has been relentlessly stalking my family to the point of moving in right next door to us to harass us and spy on us to satisfy his creepy obsession with my wife," Todd Palin wrote in a statement about McGinniss, according to The Associated Press. "His book is full of disgusting lies, innuendo and smears. Even The New York Times called this book 'dated, petty,' and that it 'chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip.'" 

The New York Times, which reviewed the book this week, also had other negative things to say about the book and its author, including: "There is one area, and only one, in which "The Rogue” is dead-on. Mr. McGinniss knows how publicity works. He appreciates, not to say emulates, the way members of the Palin family cash in on celebrity and contradict themselves without penalty."

McGinnis, you may recall, actually moved in next door to the Palin's Wasilla, Alaska home to write the book. During an appearance on NBC's Today Show, McGinniss defended his reporting.

"I think I was as fair as I could possibly have been given the fact that she told all the people who were closest to her not to talk to me," he said during the interview.

McGinnis also revealed his own takeaway about Palin: "An utter fraud. An absolute and utter fraud," McGinniss told NBC. "At best, she's a hypocrite. At worst, she's a vindictive hypocrite."

The book is scheduled for release on September 20.
