The first witness in the trial of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Monday that orders to shoot on protestors earlier this year were made solely by the country's minister of the Interior.

The witness, Hussein Saeed Mohamed, a spokesman for Egyptian national security agency is one of four key intelligence representatives expected to serve as witnesses early in the trial.

Monday marked the the third day of the trial, which began Aug. 3. Monday's hearing began after several people were injured outside the courtroom in clashes between Mubarak supporters and protestors.

One vague news report from Egyptian daily, Al-Masry Al-Youm, said the lawyer representing the victims in the case doesn't expect a ruling until 2013. He also told the media outlet that the testimony of Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, Muslim Brotherhood supreme guide Muhammed Badi and former intelligence chief Omar Suleiman would be vital to understanding Mubarak's role in the killing of protestors.

NPR has more on today's hearing, which was the first part of the trial not broadcast on television so witnesses could talk freely.
