Los Angeles is synonymous with gourmet food truck fare. Some might even argue the art of the food truck was perfected and honed in the City of Angels.

Angelenos pride themselves on taking the culinary stylings of traditional street food to the next level. The food truck phenomenon now garners attention from major culinary power houses as well as brand names looking to re-imagine their company’s profile flavor so to speak.

Enter Macy’s Chefs-A-Go-Go food truck featuring Los Angeles’s own celebrity chef Nancy Silverton (Mozza). The setting was at Santa Monica’s Tuesday night food truck lot at the Victorian’s parking lot located at Ocean Park and Main Street. Macy’s Culinary Council first ever food truck was on scene serving up a delicious Duck Confit benefiting the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization Feeding America. Each meal benefitted a hunger relief organization of the buyer's choosing.

Compliments to Chef Nancy Silverton for serving up one of the most delicious duck a la truck entrées I have ever tasted--make it the best duck I have ever tasted.  The duck confit was served over a warm reduction of beluga lentils and garnished perfectly with a dash of sea salt and fried herbs of sage and rosemary.  The compliments of flavor and ease of the duck pulling right off the bone in moist delicious morsels made for excellent street fare for those on the run.  One food truck farer remarked, “I’ve never had duck before but if it taste’s anything like this, it’s amazing!”

I had the pleasure of speaking with the gracious Chef Silverton to speak about her relationship as a member of Macy’s Culinary Council and a local Los Angeles culinary mainstay.  Nancy Silverton is an award-winning pastry chef and the founder of La Brea Bakery and co-owner of Mozza in Los Angeles, Singapore and Orange County.  Her cookbooks, Nancy Silverton’s Pastries from the La Brea Bakery and Nancy Silverton’s Breads from the La Brea Bakery, were nominated for awards from Julia Child and the James Beard Foundation, respectively. Silverton’s eighth book, The Mozza Cookbook, was released in August.

Macy’s Culinary council continues to hold events throughout the year in cities across the nation.  For more information visit macys.com/culinarycouncil. Several food truck lots set up around the city on various days of the week, so go ahead and try your hand at the food truck phenomena.  Santa Monica has its food truck lot on Tuesday.
