LACMA Fall Film Lineup
The closing of such a series brought about contention with fans, critics and even directors such as Martin Scorsese. Tradition came to an end when the program began losing money, so museum director Michael Govan started looking at innovative ways to continue.
A diverse and dynamic line-up may be the solution.
On Tuesday, LACMA announced their slate of movies including Charlie Chaplin classics, Sundance Film Festival movies and even live readings like "The Breakfast Club" on Oct. 20. Film Independent, the Los Angles Film Festival organizer, kicks off the series with Johnny Depp's "The Rum Diary." The company will also collaborate with the New York Times as the sponsor.
Screenings and events will be held in the Bing Theatre at the museum and curated by former New York Times film critic Elvis Mitchell, LACMA film coordinator Bernardo Rondeau and Film Independent's programming team.
Mitchell hopes for an interactive film series that competes with all the places and movies in Los Angeles. He also aims to remain loyal to the audience and to bring in younger attendees.
Additionally, films will be shown on a new projector. These types of dedication represent the LACMA's commitment to build up their film program.
