Gaddafi's Foreign Minister Calls On Loyalists To Surrender
Asked by an Al Jazeera reporter in a televised interview if he thinks that the Gaddafi loyalists should put down their arms, foreign minister Abdelati Obeidi, now in the custody of the rebel's National Transition Council, answered "yes, I think it is over. I think they should give up the fight to save more bloodshed."
Obeidi claims that he does not know where Muammar Gaddafi is hiding.
Obeidi also contradicted claims that he was captured by the National Transition Council, claiming that he called rebel authorities from his hiding place near Tripoli in order to ask for protection in return for his surrender.
Al Jazeera reports that rebel forces are treating their new prisoner well and are holding him in a room with a sofa and television rather than a prison cell.
Rebel forces arrested Obeidi on Tuesday near Janzur, a suburb west of Tripoli.
