The Emmy Awards is not only a time for Hollywood's elite to come out and celebrate the best in TV but also a prime opportunity for A-list actresses to show off their sartorial skills.

This year, the ladies glammed up the red carpet with vampy reds and ladylike pastels and neutrals. The main style trends of the night were sweat heart necklines, fishtail gowns and body hugging silhouettes.

Nina Dobrev and Lea Michele stepped out in red looks, while "Glee's" Jayma Mayes and "Modern Family's" Ariel Winter demonstrated the pastel and neutral trend with ease and elegance. Claire Danes and Gwyneth Paltrow stood out with unconventional choices, forgoing the dominance of red and neutrals on the carpet.

Christina Hendricks - Johanna Johansson embellished dress

GRADE: A

Sarah: Loving the sparkling rhinestone embellishments. The front slit really carries the sexy line of the dress from top to bottom. Very updated Marilyn Monroe vibe!

Elizabeth: Stunning and glamorous. I love the way she's so fearless when it comes to her fashion choices. She doesn't try to hide her beautiful curves.

Nina Dobrev - Donna Karan red gown

 GRADE: A

Elizabeth: So flattering to her frame and the color looks beautiful. A modern twist on classic Hollywood glamour.

Sarah: Classic, stunning color choice. The red really brings out her olive skin and gorgeous brown hair. She has a killer figure.

Lea Michele - Marchesa red dress with open back

GRADE: A-

Sarah: The color of the night! I'm not so sure about how it's scrunching at the bodice but I love this color on her. We're seeing a lot of classic Hollywood throwbacks and Lea does not disappoint. This draping in the back really accentuates the dress's otherwise covered up, simple form.

Elizabeth: The back absolutely makes this dress. I like that she kept her makeup simple so our attention stayed focus on the dress's intricacy, but I think she would have looked even better with a simple up-do so that her back would be further accentuated.

Julia Stiles: Hobeika Couture

GRADE: B

Sarah: The color on her pale skin is washing her out. The fish style we've been seeing really flatters her form. Her bust line is a bit pancaked in this style though.

Elizabeth: This mermaid style is definitely a popular trend on the red carpet tonight. However I'm not sure about the structure of the dress. The knot in the middle looks as if the dress is accentuating her belly button.

Sarah Hyland - Christian Siriano collaboration coral dress

GRADE: A

Sarah: Coral pleated Grecian goddess! For her youth she is really on point with her style. Her silver accessories really bring this whole look together.

Elizabeth: She looks like a young Mila Kunis. This color looks absolutely amazing on her post-summer tanned skin. The style and hint of embellished detail keeps her from looking too old.

Kelly Osborne - J. Mendel eggplant chiffon dress

GRADE: B+

Sarah: She tries so hard and I want to give her credit. Love the eggplant color, just not sure if the bodice is holding her in right.  Her platinum locks play off nicely with the dress' hue.

Elizabeth: Her body looks amazing. The color is one we haven't seen much on the red carpet and I think it looks great on with her milky skin. But I'm not sure about the strap on her arm. It looks misplaced.

Gwyneth Paltrow - Pucci embellished dress

GRADE: C-

Sarah: Britney Spears circa 1999 called, she wants her look back. The black lace flamenco look is just not flattering for the airy blonde. She looks very Morticia Adams gone awry.

Elizabeth: It looks like a piece of the dress is missing. I'll give her credit for taking a risk and she has a great figure, but I think she's a little old to be wearing a dress like this.

Julianna Margulies - Armani Prive white dress

GRADE: C-

Elizabeth: Was anyone else reminded of the movie "Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century" when they saw her? I'm just not a fan of this dress, especially the bustier top. It looks like a child glued on rhinestones.

Sarah:
Futuristic catastrophe! It looks like alien eggs are embellishing the bodice. I will say the pearly white color makes her look like a modern day Snow White. But this dress is definitely a miss.

Jayma Mays - Zuhair Murad

GRADE: A-

Elizabeth: I'm a sucker for anything blush colored and she looks like a glammed-out ballerina in this dress. I'm loving the bright lipstick against her skin. It keeps the dress from looking too "Little Bo Peep."

Sarah:
The tiered layers really suit her Glee character. The pale pink color helps the layered tool from overpowering the look. Pretty in pink!

Claire Danes - Oscar de la Renta sparkle dress

GRADE: A

Elizabeth: I love this dress on her. The surprising sparkle and pattern are really refreshing and eye catching. This was a great choice for the classic beauty.

Sarah: Up close this dress has a really cool scale-like sequined effect. Claire chose a similar shape at last year's Emmys. The blue pattern looks like a take on Picasso's blue period.

Zooey Deschanel -

GRADE: C

Elizabeth: I love love love her as an actress but I was a little disappointed with her dress choice. The color is great but that's probably the only thing I like about this dress. With her hair style she looks like a southern debutante. I wish there wasn't such a ginormous train!!

Sarah: This dress is a ball gown disaster. The pale color and fluffy style do not compliment her typically sleek and modern style.  The red ribbon is a color block scheme gone south.  I guess even the best of us have an off day.

Sofia Vergara - Vera Wang coral dress

GRADE: A

Sarah: Beautiful! And so glamorous! The perfect Oscars look! Definitely one of the best, if not THE best dress of the evening! This off the shoulder dress drapes just right accentuating all those famous Latin curves.

Elizabeth: This dress just exudes sexiness. The style is pretty simple but this color looks absolutely stunning on her. I'm loving the one shoulder and her hairstyle and drop earrings add a dose of glamour. Can I just be her??

Jane Lynch - David Meister dress (first of four dresses tonight)

GRADE: B+/A-

Elizabeth: The dress is simple but I think that's what I like best about Jane's style. She never dresses too over the top which allows us to focus more on her hilarious personality. I think the bangles are a nice touch and the bustier top is very flattering on her.

Sarah: Jane looks so classic and chic. I'm loving this eggplant color seen for the second time tonight. With her elongated stature this strapless dress really makes her look sleek. I wish she would have worn a jeweled necklace to make this look come together as the master of ceremonies.
