Harvard Law professor Elizabeth Warren plans to launch a campaign Wednesday to challenge Scott Brown for a U.S. Senate seat, giving Democrats a strong chance to win at least one of about 10 toss-up Senate races next November.

Warren had been pegged to become the head of the recently launched U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, but strong opposition to her anti-Wall Street pitch from Republicans nixed any chances of a successful confirmation.

The Boston Globe described Warren's bio, "Warren, the 62-year old daughter of a janitor and store clerk, grew up in Oklahoma. She attended public schools and universities, eventually becoming a bankruptcy expert at Harvard."

Fifty-three senators currently caucus with Democrats and winning a majority of the seats up for grabs will be the key to holding onto power in the upper chamber of Congress.
