"Grey’s Anatomy" kicked off its eighth season premiere with all the chaotic drama that was expected, as the doctors dealt with an enormous sinkhole that ripped through the streets while dealing with their own personal drama from last season.

The first part of the two-part episode started off with a bang as Chief Webber fires Meredith for tampering with her husband, Derek’s medical trial. Meanwhile her relationship with her husband remains in disarray. Christina and Owen’s marriage is in trouble too as they continue to argue over Cristina’s unexpected pregnancy. After ratting out Meredith last season, Alex is forced to deal with no longer having a home and no longer having any friends.

Pandemonium ensues at the hospital as the cast attempts to save lives and the drama continues. April Kepner, the newly elected chief resident, struggles to hold on to her job and her sanity. Meanwhile Zola’s social worker questions Meredith and Derek’s relationship and ability as parents and ultimately decides to temporarily take Zola away.

Alex briefly loses consciousness as Cristina accidentally hits him with a needle during surgery.  Cristina ultimately follows through with her decision to get an abortion. And, in probably the most shocking twist to the premiere, Chief Webber tells the hospital board that HE actually tampered with the clinical trial and Meredith was covering for her, thus stepping down as chief and getting Meredith’s job back.

The emotion packed two-hour premiere was crammed with plenty of drama that promises a season full of shockers from each and every character. The devoted followers of the show will no doubt be clinging to the edge of their seats as the lives of the Seattle Grace doctors play out and maybe even fall apart.
