Sad news for fans of Starz’s series Spartacus: Blood and Sand; Spartacus actor Andy Whitfield died yesterday of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The actor was diagnosed last year as he prepared to tackle the second season of Spartacus. (EW

Cyndi Lauper pulled a Christina Aguilera over the weekend by messing up the Star-Spangled Banner at the U.S. Open. Lauper, who was singing before the women’s semi-final match, sang, “O’er the ramparts we watched as our flag was still streaming.” Messing up the national anthem at the Super Bowl: bad. Messing up the national anthem right after a moment of silence for 9/11: yikes. (The Huffington Post)

Rumors abounded earlier that Candace Bushnell’s The Carrie Diaries would get the small-screen treatment, and those rumors have come into fruition. The show will be produced by the same team behind Gossip Girl, and will air on The CW (of course). (The Hollywood Reporter)

After splitting up with model/actress Elisabetta Canalis, the notoriously private George Clooney quickly picked up a new girlfriend: former model and WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler. The two recently stepped out together at the Toronto Film Festival. (US Weekly)
