Tired of the typical barbeques this Labor Day weekend? Take some time out to do these activities.

FYF Fest
Making its return to the L.A. State Historic Park, the one-day music festival is ready to treat concertgoers to yet another year of head-banging tunes, comedic acts and inevitable sunburns. Headlining the spectacle this year are punk bands The Descendents and Death From Above 1979. Not a fan of the genre? No problem — FYF Fest has well over 30 other acts spread over five stages that are sure to please everyone’s musical tastes. (Saturday, L.A. State Historic Park)

Outdoor Cinema Food Fest
Celebrate the end of summer with the ultimate outdoor picnic complete with a lineup of delectable food trucks and a movie screening. To cap off its season, the Outdoor Cinema Food Fest will be playing the science fiction classic, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," as well as screening hilarious shorts from Funny or Die. (Saturday, Northridge Litte League Field)

"The Taste" Food and Wine Festival
Satisfy your appetite by joining other L.A. foodies in this four-day culinary extravaganza that spans across Downtown, Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Hosted by the Los Angeles Times, the event will feature cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs as well as meet-and-greets with Food Network personalities including Giada De Laurentis and Duff Goldman. Although ticket prices may be steep, with unlimited samplings from more than 40 of the best culinary destinations in the area, leaving with a food coma is guaranteed. (Friday through Monday, various locations)

The Big Picture: AFI's Great American Movie Quiz
Let Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek test your knowledge in popular film and music trivia at one of the city’s best outdoor venues, the Hollywood Bowl. While classic movie scenes are projected on screen, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra will accompany with the musical scores live on stage. Pack a picnic basket filled with snacks and have a feast under the starry sky. (Sunday, Hollywood Bowl)

L.A. County Fair
Take part in an all-American pastime of carnival games and deep-fried treats galore at the 89th annual L.A. County Fair. Attractions will include a traveling circus, live shark encounters and the highly acclaimed anatomical exhibit, “Our Body: Live Healthy,” which features real-life bodies and organs. Additionally, the fair will also hold contests from photography to quilting to wine making for those who have a competitive edge. (Friday through Oct. 2, Pomona)
