The 16 passengers and three crew members were on their way back from a flight to Everest while onboard a plane owned by private airline company, Buddha Air.

Of the 19 people, there were 10 Indian, two American, one Japanese and three Nepali passengers along with the three flight crew members said Tourism Secretary Ganeshraj Joshi as reported by the Associated Press.

One man was found alive in the wreckage after the crash but died shortly thereafter on the way to a hospital.

An investigation will be launched to look into the crash by the Nepalese government. Although unconfirmed currently, heavy fog may have rendered poor visibility for the flight.

The weather on Sunday morning was foggy and the visibility was poor around Katmandu, according to meteorologist Rajendra Shrestha. The surrounding mountains were enveloped in fog and it was raining at the time of the crash.

The bodies of the passengers were flown to the Tribhuwan University Hospital.
