USC Football Fall Notebook - August 18 Practice
SCROGGINS REMOVED FROM CAMP: Redshirt freshman QB Jesse Scroggins injured his thumb earlier in camp, and was replaced on the 105-man training camp roster, freeing up a spot for CB Allen Noble.
Scroggins is not allowed to attend practice or meetings, and cannot eat with the team for the rest of camp. He will be able to rejoin the team when classes start on Monday, August 22.
Scroggins discussed the injury after practice on August 12, as seen in the video below:
BRUISED AND SCARRED: Injuries prevented several players from practicing Thursday, or limited their time on the field.
Out: DE Zack Kusnir, DT J.R. Tavai, CB Brian Bachaum, S Marshall Jones, OT Matt Kalil, C Cody Temple, TB D.J. Morgan, TE Christian Thomas, WR De'Von Flournoy
Limited: S Cody Romness, LB Chris Galippo, WR Robert Woods, WR Kyle Prater
"Good to see the guys that are still out here pushing through," Head coach Lane Kiffin said of the injured players who still practiced. "Guys like [wide receiver] Brandon Carswell that weren't even cleared today; he pushed his way back out here. It says a lot about those guys.
"Most of the guys that ARE out are really out, and can't do everything you need to play the game."
Kiffin also expressed his hope that Robert Woods will return to the field soon. "He needs to get back," Kiffin said. "We need to get him back out here to get the timing down and get himself right. Hopefully that will be soon."
WHAT'S NEXT: The next practice for the Trojans is Tuesday, 3 p.m. at Howard Jones Field.
CH-CH-CHANGES: Kiffin also discussed the adjustment for Devon Kennard from defensive end to linebacker, as seen in the full video at the bottom of this page.
