Must-Reads of the Week: Dick Cheney's New Memoir And More

By Dick Cheney with Liz Cheney
(Threshold Editions, Hardcover, $35)
There’s already been a lot of buzz surrounding Cheney’s lengthy memoir, which promises readers insight into his side of key events in President George W. Bush’s terms in office, including 9/11 and the launch of the Iraq war. (Aug. 30)
Phenomenal: California Light, Space, Surface
By Robin Lee Clark
(University of California Press, Hardcover, $40)
For all you art buffs, here is a look into a group of artists in Los Angeles during the 1960s and '70s who used light as their chosen medium, favoring translucency and reflectivity to heighten the viewer’s senses. The book is a companion piece to the exhibition of the same name at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego at La Jolla, starting Sept. 25. (Sept. 1)
The Girl with the Sturgeon Tattoo: A Parody
By Lars Arffssen
(St. Martin’s Griffin, Paperback, $10)
The title may seem familiar, but this parody of Stieg Larsson’s international best-selling trilogy brings its own unique brand of hilarity and twists to the original story. It’s never too soon for a parody (sort of like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” but a crime-thriller). (Aug. 30)
