Polygamist Leader Warren Jeffs Hospitalized

An MSNBC report states Jeffs had been fasting since he was sentenced to life in prison on August 9 for sexually assaulting his underage followers. Prison officials say he was not on a hunger strike.
A source told ABC News that Jeffs may not survive. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice says Jeffs is in critical but stable condition and would not confirm whether or not he was in a coma. Prison officials are not permitted to release specific information about the medical issues of prisoners.
Jeffs is scheduled to stand trial on charges of bigamy in October. He is the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), a sect that broke away from the Mormon Church 72 years ago.
