Crosby Still Questionable

NHL superstar Sidney Crosby is still experiencing concussion symptoms eight months after he incurred the injury, Penguins GM Ray Shero announced.

Crosby, 24, has not played a game since January 5, 2011. Many are hoping for his return to training camp this season, but since he still has not been cleared for practice with contact that desire remains questionable.

It is known that Crosby has been training hard all summer in Canada, and plans to return to Pittsburgh right before training camp. However, a month before camp begins Crosby and Penguins fans must continue to hope for the best.

Avery Not Charged

Sean Avery will not be charged for his altercation with a police officer.

On August 5 Avery was arrested at his home in Los Angeles, where he allegedly shoved a police officer who had arrived on the scene in response to a noise complaint.

Avery posted his $20,000 bail after spending seven hours in jail.

The alleged altercation is just one more notch in the hockey player’s belt of shame. He is as well known for his hockey skills as he is for his bad-boy image.

No Islanders Vs. Penguins Replay

The February 11, 2011 game between the New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins will no longer be re-televised.

The match-up was more of a blood bath than a game, as the teams posted a combined total of 65 penalties equaling 346 penalty minutes, ten ejections, 15 fighting majors, and 20 game misconducts. Trevor Gillies (Islanders) was punished with a nine game suspension, while Matt Martin (Islanders) was suspended for four games and had to pay a $100,000 fine. The Islanders were not the only team penalized – Eric Godard of the Penguins was suspended for 10 games.

It was deemed an inappropriate game to replay, as it is not one of the NHL’s shining moments. Per the Islanders’ wishes, the league has instead opted to show a game against the Buffalo Sabres where Michael Grabner scored a hat trick to win the game.
