Congressional Black Caucus Hosts Job Fair For South LA
Rep. Maxine Waters hosted a jobs fair Wednesday in Los Angeles with the Congressional Black Caucus. The event lasted from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Crenshaw Christian Center, drawing nearly 10,000 jobseekers from the community. According to Waters' Chief of Staff, Mikael Moore, there were about 180 booths with about 165 employers, offering jobs in categories such as technology, education, retail, government, security, entertainment, finance, and health.
Los Angeles is one of five cities that the Congressional Black Caucus has recognized with high unemployment rates. According to the L.A. Bureau of Statistics, the current national unemployment rate is 9.1 percent, while Los Angeles is 13.3 percent unemployed. For African-Americans nationwide, the unemployment rate is 16 percent.
