AT&T has promised that the merger of their company and T-Mobile USA would create upwards of 5,000 jobs in the U.S. However, tech critics such as PC World's Sascha Segan discredit the claim, lauding the DOJ lawsuit a major victory against mega-mergers.

…the U.S. Department of Justice made a huge stand for the American people today, seeing through AT&T's lies and its acres of Astroturf and saying: this has got to stop.

Mega-mergers won't create jobs.

Fewer choices don't mean lower prices.

AT&T's promises of better 4G are just that, only promises. Not guarantees.

Others, like InvestorPlace.com editor Jeff Reeves, note that the mobile market has been shrinking for some time.

AT&T hardly is on the brink of collapse and hardly a bit player in the telecom sector. The sad reality is that the mobile marketplace has been consolidating for some time, and this will continue with or without the merger.

Harold Feld, a legal director of the nonprofit groups, Public Knowledge, told the New York Times that “fighting this job-killing merger is the best Labor Day present anyone can give the American people.”
