MTV has long since been a real music network, as the channel that once hosted “Unplugged” is now known more for shows like “Jersey Shore.” But Adam Levine took to Twitter to air his grievances about the network, bemoaning the fact that the VMAs is only “one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music.” (Twitter)

Jay-Z and Kanye West took the stage for a surprise performance of their new single “Otis,” off of their joint release “Watch the Throne.” Following the aesthetic of the track’s music video (directed by none other than street man ingénue Spike Jonze), Yeezy wore denim on denim while Jay-Z kept it clean in a white tee, all before the backdrop of an American flag. Lady Gaga performed the entire VMAs in her male alter ego, a New Jersey native (rep it) named Jo Calderone. Introduced in the video for her single “Yoü And I,” along with her disabled mermaid alter ego Yuyi, Jo ran the show even as reporters asked Gaga questions. And just when you thought she was out of tricks… (EW)

Lil Wayne certainly took his –bleep-ing time with “Tha Carter IV,” and then delivered a –bleep-ing interesting performance, playing tracks off his new album with a little help from his friend Rick Ross. While he didn’t win anything that night, Wayne’s performance was punctuated with a –bleep-ing ad announcing that his long-awaited album was being digitally released at midnight. (MTV)

Oh yeah, and Beyonce is pregnant with her first child. Husband Jay-Z nearly had a fit in the audience, he was so happy. Here’s to hoping Kanye will be named the godfather; either way, that is going to be one lucky kid. (People)
