USC senior running back Marc Tyler was suspended for the season opener for making inappropriate comments to TMZ last Thursday.

Between this incident and sanctions from the NCAA, it seems that the Trojans just can’t catch a break.

Tyler, who led the Trojans in rushing last season with 913 yards, was stopped in front of a nightclub by TMZ cameras and made a number of comments that could only be regarded as foolish, such as claiming that USC paid its athletes and that all players could get with Kim Kardashian. The fact that he was most likely intoxicated did not help his cause, as Tyler is currently under scrutiny from student judicial affairs for previous alcohol-related incidents

Coach Lane Kiffin and Athletic Director Pat Haden released statements Monday expressing their disappointment in Tyler. “Marc needs to work hard to show us that he can meet the standards of being a USC football player," said Kiffin. Tyler also released a statement, claiming that he regretted letting down his school and teammates and that he would devote himself to rejoining the team.

While alcohol- related incidents are common amongst college athletes, the fact that this is Marc Tyler’s second offense in recent months is certainly cause for concern.  With this in mind and the fact that Tyler was projected to be a leader on the upcoming season’s team, the disciplinary action he receives might end up costing him much more than just one game.
