Los Angeles is a diverse city, full of unique individuals and always full of entertainment. Thursday, July 14, 2011 is no exception to this description of the city, as the US Air Guitar Championships jam at the Key Club.

Participants 18 and older enter to perform their best air guitar act in front of the audience for 60 seconds. Contestants are judged based on three categories: Technical Merit, Stage Presence, and Airness.

Merit and presence are self-explanatory categories, but airiness soars to a whole new level of judging.  To score high in the Airness category, air-guitarists must look as if they are playing a real instrument.

While all of this may sound phony, this event is no joke. Those who make it through the first round must compete again, and the winner receives a cash prize to travel to the nationals. The winner of nationals then receives a travel package to Worlds in Hawaii.
