A plethora of style savvy mavens were busy scoring one-of-a-kind fashion finds from local and independent designers at the Thread show this past Sunday in Downtown Los Angeles.

Since 2003, Thread has been scouring and supporting the best emerging creative talent through its bi-annual shopping event that draws in the attention of designers, artists and patrons alike.

Filling the entire top floor of the Cooper Design Space, an airy and open showroom equipped with floor to ceiling windows exposing sweeping views of downtown LA’s urban landscape, was a slew clothes, jewelry and other knickknacks typically not available at the average mall.

Although admission was $10 at the door, ($5 if people RSPV’ed on their website beforehand) there were complimentary drinks, massages, and manicures-albeit a nearly three hour-long waiting list, as well as Do-it-Yourself stations, where people can sculpt their own artistic masterpieces out of neon colored straws.

Despite the fun and upbeat atmosphere, people came to the showcase to do some serious spending.

Merchandise tables and stands were dripping with unique finds that were both drool worthy and on the cusp of cutting edge.

Among the myriad of designers at the event, was Krochet Kids, a non-profit organization that sells trendy crochet hats handmade and signed by a group of women in Northern Uganda.

Profits from these hats go towards helping enrich the lives of individuals living in poverty stricken developing nations.

Quirky jewelry brand Bela Koi, who got its start by selling vintage inspired pieces on Etsy, was among the most popular at the event.

Owner Rachel Cabellero drew the inspiration for her jewelry line after being pregnant with her third child which confined her to stay at home to create handmade baby blankets. It was then when Caberllero saw the potential of creating quality pieces that had the whimsical charm of baby toys.

Her little trinkets include everything from teacup shaped rings to understated cameos that pack a serious punch of cuteness.

With music blaring and photographers snapping away at the fashion forward attendees, Thread has made a lucrative trade by combining two of the best things (or vices) in life: shopping and partying.
