In the wake of Anthony Weiner's resignation from Congress, Politico put together a "greatest hits" video of the best and worst moments of his political career, something that must have been difficult given the endless amounts of material the congressman has provided over the years. Now that Weiner has resigned, we can all start talking about his comeback--or at least we can listen to CNN's Wolf Blitzer talk about it. Said Blitzer: "If Anthony Weiner does some day want to make a political comeback, he will certainly have the cash to do it. The New York City Campaign Finance Board database shows that he has $4.5 million in cash for what was supposed to be his 2013 race for New York mayor. Until the scandal, he was widely seen as the front-runner."

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann may have stolen the spotlight at this week's GOP presidential debate, but does she actually have a shot at her party's nomination? According to Time's Mark Halperin: "Not a great shot but a real one. If Tim Pawlenty fails to catch fire, Jon Huntsman flames out and Rick Perry and Palin take a pass, Bachmann can win the Iowa caucuses and head into a one-on-one matchup with front runner Mitt Romney. She may also benefit from being the only woman in a
testosterone-fueled field. Unlike previous insurgents who fell short (Pat Buchanan, Mike Huckabee), Bachmann is a formidable fundraiser who should be able to buy plenty of TV airtime to go with an energized ground game."

Just days before he's expected to make his formal presidential rollout, Jon Huntsman has bowed out of the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans this weekend due to a bad cold. Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty are also skipping out on the major Republican gathering.  Huntsman was scheduled to speak there on Friday.

Pawlenty, by the way, now has something in common with fellow GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich other than just politics: both have been victims of "glitterings."

From Politico: "A large protest gathered outside the AHIP conference chanting 'Medicare for all!' and 'Single payer now!' A few of the signs were targeted at Rep. Paul Ryan accusing him of being bought by insurance companies. Gov. Tim Pawlenty was 'glittered' by two protesters while signing books inside. A pair of women dumped pink glitter and confetti on the governor demanding 'Tim Pawlenty, where is your courage to stand? Stand for reproductive rights! Stand for gay rights!'"

Gingrich, you may recall, was glittered at a book signing in Minneapolis about a month ago.

A new Gallup Poll finds that--surprise!--the vast majority of Americans are not satisfied with the direction this country is going. An overwhelming 78 percent said in June that they were dissatisfied with the direction the nation's going, while just 20 percent said they were satisfied with its direction.
