Two years ago today, fans around the world were shocked to learn Michael Jackson was being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital and would later be pronounced dead that afternoon. Music fans were left stunned and saddened by the loss of a musician whose lyrics impacted and inspired so many people.

Today, as people commemorate the second anniversary of Jackson’s passing, his music, his messages of hope, and the search for answers to his untimely death remain.

Dr. Conrad Murray is awaiting trial and remains accused of involuntary manslaughter. Authorities believe Dr. Murray was responsible for administering the pop icon's fatal dose of meds. The defendant, however, adamantly maintains his innocence and is not expected to accept a plea deal.

Just this week, Michael’s sister, LaToya Jackson, was promoting her new book, “Starting Over.” She discussed on NBC’s “Today” show that she believes Michael feared for his life in the weeks before his death and that Dr. Conrad Murray is only part of a "conspiracy." She referred to Dr. Murray as “the fall guy.”

On a more positive note, Jackson’s kids have been handling their father’s passing well. Prince, Paris, and Blanket remain in the care of Grandmother Katherine Jackson and were spotted going to a movie on Friday according to Pop Eater.

Fans of the late musician are expected today at Michael’s Las Vegas estate which will be opened for the first time, for only four hours, in order for fans to pay their respects. Also in Las Vegas later this year, Cirque du Soleil will kick off “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour.
