As one of the most highly regarded names in fashion, Lee Alexander McQueen created theatrical statement pieces and innovative methods of showcasing them. After his death in 2010, the media and fascination regarding McQueen and his work exploded. A tribute to his legacy, "Savage Beauty," an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of art, now showcases 100 works curated from each of his finest collections. The accompanying book to the show, also entitled "Savage Beauty," is written by Andrew Bolton, the curator of the costume institute at the MET.

The book has just been released to those who had preordered it. The front cover features a hologram that morphs the designer’s face into a tribal skull; one of the feature themes of McQueen’s work. The weight, size, and page quality is that of a yearbook. The pictures are beautiful and clear, allowing the reader to see every last inch of the models’ attire. The models are painted to look like faceless, lifeless mannequins. Only the ‘best’ of McQueen’s collections are shown, so some, such as one of my favorites, ‘Pantheon As Lecum’ are not covered. On about every other page is a relevant quote from the designer; usually, a lesser-known quote. After 225 pages comes an interview with Sarah Burton, the current creative director for Alexander McQueen.

This book is a must for anyone who can't make it to New York City to view "Savage Beauty" before the end of July, or for any true McQueen fan. It cost about $45 through pre-order, but can be found at a range of prices online.
