New iMacs, Now With Sandy Bridge
Early this morning, Apple released an update to the iMacs, their desktop computer line, with the biggest addition being the new Quad Core Sandy Bridge processors.
This refresh also added features that would catch the desktop up with Apple's Macbook Pro line, by adding a "FaceTime" HD camera and Thunderbolt, Apple's latest I/O technology.
These upgrades resemble many of the changes seen in the latest refresh with the Macbook Pro, particularly with addition of the FaceTime HD camera and Thunderbolt, leading to speculation that Apple may be rethinking the exterior design of their Mac line for the upcoming year.
Interestingly enough, Apple has provided an option to have the iMac come with their Magic Mouse or their Magic Trackpad, in an attempt to appeal to notebook users as well.
Most of the updates are "under-the-hood," adding more power to the device than ever before. Apple claims that this processer update increases speed by up to 70 percent, and the graphics are supposed to have three times the performance than before.
As per most Apple updates, the prices for the machines have stayed the same, with the base model starting at $1,199, and the device is available starting today via Apple's Online Store.
