A Russian, American and Italian aboard a Soyuz capsule returned safely to Earth on Monday after conducting a five-month mission on the International Space Station.

Expedition 27 crew members Dmitry Kondratyev of Russia, Cady Coleman of the U.S. and Paolo Nespoli of Italy landed 7:27 p.m. PDT in Kazakhstan. Left behind on the station are three residents who now comprise Expedition 28, and shuttle Endeavour's six astronauts.

This was the first time a Soyuz vehicle undocked from the orbiting laboratory while a shuttle orbiter is docked there. The Expedition 27 crew took advantage of the unique photo opportunity shortly after undocking, capturing images and video of the station-shuttle complex.

Expedition 28's second half of the crew is due at the station on June 9. Endeavour is scheduled to return to Earth on May 31 (June 1 for EDT).
