Jeff Conaway, former star of the movie Grease and TV show Taxi, fell into a coma about a week ago in Los Angeles.

The actor is known as much for his roles as he is for his problems off-screen. Conaway has battled drug addiction, including cocaine, throughout his life.

The news of Conaway’s ailing health shocked and saddened his family and friends. According to a recent interview by People Magazine, his manager, Phil Brock, stated Conaway “…seemed fine early last week…and even attended an autograph signing.” There was no indication from Conaway or his doctors that such a drastic change in his health was imminent. Yet he had been unconscious for over 10 hours when he was finally found.

At present, it appears that Conaway’s situation was caused by a reaction to the various prescriptions that he is on to treat his medical ailments. The reaction caused him to come down with pneumonia, which presumably placed him in a coma. It must be emphasized, however, that all of Conaway’s drugs were all legally prescribed.
