President Barack Obama will be kicking off his California round of campaigning with an extravagant affair in Hollywood. Tinseltown has always been an important stop in the President’s campaign, as the donors dig deep to support him. 

As soon as Obama arrives in Los Angeles on Thursday, he will go directly into the heart of film land at the Sony lot in Culver City. According to CNN, an exclusive sit-down lunch has been organized at a location on the lot, with the help of Sony CEO and Chairman Michael Lynton. The dinner will be attended by approximately 60 guests, each forking out $35,800 to participate in a presidential luncheon, for a total of $2.15 million. Nearly 90 percent of the money will go to Democratic National Committee; the rest to his campaign.

Lunch will be followed by a fundraising rally on the Sony Lot. Ted Johnson, managing editor of Variety and the man behind the Wilshire & Washington blog, reports that Jamie Foxx and Jason Mraz will be performing at the rally, and will be joined by actress Rashida Jones. Tickets to the rally are priced between $100 and $2,500. 

Grammy and Oscar-winning artist Jamie Foxx, an avid supporter of President Obama’s campaign, will be performing live at the rally. According to Johnson, selecting indie artist Jason Mraz to perform was an interesting choice on the DNC’s part. 

“Jason Mraz has been very progressive, I’ve seen him at a number of political events,” said Johnson. “He didn’t perform but he turned up for a fundraiser for the campaign to get Prop 8 overturned in court.”

Obama is perhaps looking to restore faith in some of his big-screen supporters. Earlier last month, actor Matt Damon, an early supporter of Obama’s campaign in 2008, revealed to Piers Morgan on CNN that he didn’t think the president had done a good job.  

After the rally ends at 6 p.m., Obama will go to the Tavern in Brentwood for an intimate dinner. Johnson estimates around 30 people will attend the second dinner, for which they are paying $35,800 a head to get more face-time with the President. It is at the Tavern, hosted by Tennis Channel CEO Ken Solomon, Capital Group’s John Emerson, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and Democratic fundraiser Andy Spahn, where some of Hollywood’s elite will be congregating. 

According to Johnson’s reports, figures such as legendary musician Berry Gordy and Eli Broad are expected to attend at least one of the events, and with A-listers like Ron Howard and Tom Hanks turning up at past events, it is no doubt that Obama will find Hollywood’s most influential stars lining up to meet him.
