Turns out free tickets can be costly. California’s Fair Political Practices Commission approved $21,000 in fines for L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for accepting free tickets and failing to report them as gifts. Read the Associated Press story here. L.A.’s Ethics Commission will take up a similar fine today.

  • Two LAPD officers have been rewarded $2 million by an L.A. County jury, the L.A. Times says. The officers alleged they were retaliated against for complaining about illegal traffic ticket quotas.
  • Dodger fans raised nearly $62,000 yesterday for the Giants fan who was severely beaten on opening day, the Daily News says. Fans drove up to Dodger Stadium and dropped off cash and checks to help pay Bryan Stow’s medical fees. The father of two is still in a medically induced coma, the article says.
  • Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to sign a landmark clean energy bill today. The Associated Press breaks the bill down here. California utilities must glean 33 percent of their energy from renewables by the end of 2020.
