Elizabeth Banks has officially signed on to 'The Hunger Games,' a film version of Suzanne Collins' best selling novel that will be released in 2012.

The mostly-young cast currently features Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) starring as Katniss, a teenage girl who enters a futuristic survival contest called The Hunger Games in order to save her community.

Other official cast members include Josh Hutchinson ("The Kids Are All Right"), as well as a handfull of newcomers.

Banks, known for her roles in 30 Rock and "The Next Three Days," will portray Katniss' escort, Effie Trinket.

Her co-stars currently include Lawrence, Hutchinson, and Liam Hemsworth, while the rest of the cast is mostly comprised of unknowns.

Today two more young actors, Ethan Jamieson and Tara Macken, have been signed on to portray characters known as 'tribute boy' and 'tribute girl.' Jamieson has appeared on One Tree Hill and Macken's experience mostly includes stunts.

Although the film's casting is not yet completed, audiences are anxiously anticipating what could be the first of a 'Hunger Games' trilogy.
