Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones had checked into a mental health facility for her bipolar II disorder, said her publicist Tuesday through US Magazine.

The 41-year-old’s brain illness is a condition involving intense mood swings in which depressive episodes occur more frequently than manic ones. Those with this type of disorder have the highest risk of suicide, according to Medscape.

Zeta-Jones checked into Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut on April 6 and checked out on April 11, according to Daily Mail.

The “Chicago” star supported 66-year-old husband Michael Douglas through his six-month treatment with stage IV throat cancer, now in remission after radiation and chemotherapy sessions.

"After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay," said her rep. "She's feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films."

Zeta-Jones is next scheduled to appear in soccer movie “Playing the Field,” with Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel.

The couple have two children together: 10-year old son Dylan and 7-year-old daughter Carys.
