Last Thursday, the Metro board approved a $4.77 million contract to begin environmental studies on a transit connector to LAX from the Green and upcoming Crenshaw lines.  That prospect has journalist Matthew Fleischer up in arms. The connector would be a waste of precious dollars until more of the city can actually connect efficiently to LAX, he argues in a piece on KCET. Jumping on the Green line or in the future, the Crenshaw line to LAX is just too cumbersome for most of the city, he says. You can read the piece here

Also from KCET in transit news: a high-speed rail link from Las Vegas to Victorville is picking up speed. Sen. Harry Reed says ground breaking could begin in one year.

Via KPCC: After striking a labor deal with the city, Coalition of L.A. City Union leaders must now convince their members to ratify the pact. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hopes the deal is just a start.

The LA Times, this weekend, looked at last week’s deal and what the city hopes to gain from further concessions: $218 million next year from the fire department, police, and non-coalition unions.
