Los Angeles is gearing up for Tuesday’s municipal election as the work week kicks off. An assortment of measures are on the ballot and seven council seats are up for grab. In council district 12, Councilman Greig Smith is retiring, making it the only district in which an incumbent is not running.

This weekend, the Los Angeles Times examined the role the city’s precarious financial situation is playing in the election. The paper also looks at the ongoing feud between Councilman Bernard Parks and County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and it’s role in Park’s tough reelection campaign.

Park’s opponent, Forescee Hogan-Rowles has greatly benefitted from organized labor’s animosity toward the councilman. The L.A. Weekly maps out 10 reason’s behind the grumbling.

The scandal-plagued city of Bell will also be holding elections Tuesday. Neon Tommy has an in-depth look at the elections and profiles of the candidates.
