L.A. Today: Cheating, Cell Phones, And More

The Los Angeles school board nixed six chart schools, removing the charter for the Crescendo organization a day after the L.A. Times revealed it cheated on standardized tests.

  • In the latest in their Meet The Candidates series, LAist talks to Stephen Box, who is running against Councilman Tom LaBonge in District 4.
  • LA Streetsblog, spoke with Congressman John Mica about the transportation bill Congress is currently working on.  Mica and Sen. Barbara Boxer held a joint-hearing in Los Angeles last week.
  • L.A. City Controller Wendy Greuel called Tuesday for the city to drastically trim the amount of city-issued cell phones, saving millions, the Daily News reports.  A day earlier, Greuel announced she is moving toward running for mayor in 2013.
