The city council will discuss L.A.’s bike plan today. The plan calls for 1,680 miles of interconnected bikeways. The Times says the master plan is expected to pass, a significant victory for bike activists.
- Bell’s police appeared to have been playing games of baseball, earning singles, doubles, and even homers for nabbing various violators. The Times obtained the police department memo and has the story here.
- LAUSD construction sites are lacking in required inspectors to assess safety, the Daily News reports. The paper quotes an inspector who saw children running around toxic dust while workers wore respirators.
- Also from the Daily News, City Controller Wendy Gruel is seriously exploring running for mayor. Gruel says she’ll file the needed paper work so she can begin raising money. How much? Gruel says she’ll need $3 to $4 million.
- After facing significant push-back from local governments, Gov. Jerry Brown is tweaking his budget plans. The Associated Press reports fewer prisoners will be turned over to local governments under the governor's realignment strategy.
