Fox News announced that it suspended Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as paid commentators on Wednesday due to a potential conflict of interest should the two run for the White House in 2012.

While no person has emerged just yet as a serious candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, Fox News determined former House Speaker Gingrich and former Senator Santorum “signaled possible runs for the presidency,” Fox anchor Bret Baier said on air Wednesday morning.

“I share in their commitment to ensure news organizations provide balanced coverage of the issues of the day,” Santorum said in a press release about Fox News, according to GOP12

Their suspension will be effective for 60 days until May 1, when contracts will be terminated unless Fox is notified they are not running for president, Baier said.

Gingrich is expected to announce he is exploring a possible presidential candidacy in Georgia on Thursday, but his top spokesman Rick Tyler said Gingrich will not announce the formation of an exploratory committee.

Santorum has said he plans to spend time considering a presidential run and will make an announcement in the coming months.

While Fox News contributors former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin have both been discussed as potential 2012 candidates, they have not been suspended yet.
