The Future Of “Two And A Half Men”
The show, which averages 15 million viewers a week, can afford to lose a few viewers and still be a huge Monday night comedy hit.
Shows such as “Law and Order” and “Cheers” have reinvented themselves with successful outcomes. NBC is already planning to continue with "The Office" even with the departure of Steve Carell.
Speculation has already begun for who can replace Sheen’s character. John Stamos and Rob Lowe have been thrown around as early front-runners.
Is it possible that CBS may have made a mistake in firing Sheen so quickly? Just this past Monday, a re-run of “Men” aired which attracted more than 10 million viewers. In addition, the show continues to run in syndication with Sheen as the main star. There has been plenty of talk that Sheen is this and Sheen is that, but viewers are still tuning in to see what the actor has to say. What would stop them from running back to new episodes of “Men?”
Nonetheless, CBS deserves to give “Men” a shot without Sheen. The story angles and possibilities are endless. If it succeeds, creator Chuck Lorre can get the ultimate payback for all the attacks received from Sheen. “Men” can survive without you Sheen and maybe you aren’t the biggest winner after all.
