The connection does not affect the current conflict.  Yet, all artists have ties to Gaddafi's son Mutassim.  Mutassim hired some of these artists to perform at or attend his Caribbean New Year's Eve parties.  50 Cent was hired to give a private concert to the family at the 2005 Venice Film festival.  

Artists received large payments for their talents, as much as $2 million, and now want nothing to do with the Gaddafis.  To avoid further conflict with the family, many artists are making donations to charity.  

Rapper 50 Cent is choosing to donate to Unicef, while Beyoncé chose to donate to Haiti relief.  Usher pledged to donate to human rights charities.  All expressed sincere regret when they learned of Mutassim's connection to the family, as many were previously unaware.  

Other celebrity performers and attendees have yet to respond.
