The Neon Tommy Sports staff had the opportunity to spend some time at a few of the festivities surrounding the NBA All-Star Game.

We learned many things, including that while Matt Barnes is a really nice guy, no one attends his parties. Check out what else we were able to find out:

  • The rapper known as Lil' Zane is insane...insanely short that is. He's only 5-foot-5, but he looked even shorter when he walked the Athletes vs. Cancer red carpet next to the 6-foot-8 Quinton Aaron, who played Michael Oher in The Blind Side. (Shotgun Spratling)

  • At Kobe’s L.A. Confidential party, the forward ran past the red carpet quicker than a fast break down court, leaving the media, like his teammates, starved for attention. (Sara Ramsey)

  • Making a perfectly flat cement square is no easy task. As Jimmy Kimmel was trying to host Kobe Bryant's hand and footprint ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theater, the constant maintenance of the cement block behind Kimmel flustered the late night star. (Andrew Magne)

  • Rain puddles + high heels at a red carpet event = hilarity. Thanks for the laughs Purp and Yellow party! (Michael Green)

  • Kathleen Bradley, the first black model to appear on “The Price is Right”, walked the red carpet at comedian Ricky Del Rosario’s “I Missed You” DVD release party. Her telling of tawdry tales about fellow spokesmodel Diane Parkinson’s trysts with Bob Barker was the only highlight of the event. (Kate Rooney)

  • It may have been the rain, possibly the barrage of ill-fitting leopard print mini dresses, but either way, Kobe’s L.A. Confidential party experienced a major lack of celebrity loving. Highlights included Quinton Aaron and some guy from Hellcats. (Sara Ramsey)

  • Another interesting Lil' Zane tidbit...he said that like athletes, he likes to warm up before performances. While athletes listen to music to get pumped up, he plays basketball before going out to perform. (Shotgun Spratling)

  • The Rejects are the best red carpet rap group on the planet. They don't walk the red carpet, they put on a concert, running around freestyling and play fighting while striking ridiculous poses. All in pimped out Mickey Mouse hats and gold teeth. They're the best. (Patrick Crawley)

  • It's time for the Skills Challenge to go. The jogs through the course were somewhat expected but Chris Paul's missed layup was an embarrassment. How 'bout a 1-on-1, 3-on-3, or even better a SlamBall tournament to replace it. (Andrew Magne)

  • Matt Barnes fiancee, Gloria Govan, was a bigger hit on the Athletes vs. Cancer Fashion Nite Tip-Off red carpet than Barnes. She talked about the Laker wives and girlfriends and also insinuated that she had recently had breast augmentation. We weren't sure if she was kidding or not. (Shotgun Spratling)

  • New England Patriots' safety Sergio Brown told me his biggest regret as a player was not beating USC when he played for Notre Dame. My biggest regret, however, was not letting Brown teach me how to "Dougie" when he stole the show and performed the dance made famous by John Wall at The NBA All Star Celebrity Golf Classic at Trump National Golf Club.
